Greyhound buses, rural America's lifeline for nearly a century, stopped service to 269 communities in Mid and West America in August 2004. Gary Lux waits for the 9.45pm Greyhound at Grand Island, Nebraska, to take him back to Chicago. Gary was returning from visiting friends in New Mexico when his car broke down. The repair was too expensive, so he had to sell the car for $30 to a scrapyard and find the nearest bus stop. This Greyhound Grand Island stop will cease to exist within the week
